LOLER Course – Thorough Examination of Arboricultural Equipment

This is an NPTC advanced course for experienced arborists who wish to be recognised as a ‘competent person’ to examine arboricultural equipment under LOLER

This course is classroom based for 3 days covering the following topics:

  • Legal framework involved with inspecting arboricultural equipment under LOLER 1998
  • Different types of damage and defects associated with arboricultural equipment
  • Inspection techniques for a wide range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) climbing equipment and rigging equipment

3 days (9am—4.30pm approx)


  • In-depth underpinning knowledge and experience of different types of arboricultural  climbing/rigging equipment and correct applications
  • Attendees should be able to demonstrate both numeracy and literacy skills
  • It is advisable that attendees hold NPTC units CS38 and CS41
